Remove housing

The sides have 4 tabs for the “window” panels. The biggest mistake people make doing this for the first time, including me, is to put the cocktail stick between the outer body housing and the window, but it should be between the black bottom frame and the “window”. If you pull the body out with force, you would break the clips in the window panels. Lift the body straight out of the housing. Put the body housing aside.

De-solder the two wires that connect to the board.

Remove the two screws and take the electronics board off.  Make sure you don’t loose the lights and that metal disc on top of them, which are loose after removing the board.

4

Slide the black plastic motor holder out, sidewards.

5

Pull the plastic gears of the motor.

6

Fit the adapters in the gears, push them flush with the gear side. Then use Loctite or Granville glue (the blue stuff, for friction fit) and not superglue to fit the adapters on the motor shaft. With superglue you don’t have enough time to position the adapter before the glue sets.

7

With superglue, fit the plastic insert in place to level the base. Adjust the size if it is too large.

8

Glue the motor assembly with epoxy glue in place. I use Araldite Instant 90 seconds glue. Make sure it is straight and the gears are aligned with the sprockets below.

9

Solder the motor contact wires to the side contacts on the electronics board.

10

Put the model together and you’re done! Test the model before putting the housing back on. Check if your model runs and also runs in the correct direction. If it runs in the opposite direction of your other analog models, swap the wires to the contacts. If everything works well, press housing and chassis together. Or fit DCC, sound and/or a Powerpack (see below)

Digital conversion

This motor upgrade kit can very well be converted to DCC. Check the digital setting page, for many decoders, to get the best driving experience.

If you need digital decoder, you are at the right place. I have the excellent Train-O-Matic decoders and Powerpacks for a smoothless driving experience.
